The?Brazilian Institute of Politics and Law Software (IBDI) has lodged a suit against Apple for ?planned obsolescence?, claiming the Cupertino-based company deliberating released the quickly-superseded third-generation iPad with the knowledge the fourth-generation model was to launch shortly after.
According to Brazil?s Jornal do Comerciao ? first reported by Mashable ? the suit alleges Apple could have launched the third-generation iPad with the same internal technological updates as the fourth-generation iPad.
?Consumers thought [they were] buying high-end equipment not knowing [it] was already an obsolete version,? said IBDI attorney Sergio Palomares via Mashable.
The fourth-generation iPad improved on the previous generation by including Apple?s latest A6X processor, a Lightning dock connector and a FaceTime HD camera at the front of the tablet over a VGA camera.
The fourth-generation iPad shocked many when it was launched in October, seven months after Apple released its third-generation tablet ? the first iPad with a Retina display.
